7th Ave Between Christopher St and Bleecker St

Much like the other blocks in this area, I love this area just for the wide variety classic signs. Designs like these really aren't made anymore. It's not because the designers aren't able to, it's simply because the technology doesn't really require it. Most stores that are being put up now days rightfully want a flashy sign that says something about their establishment- they want to use the latest sign technology at their disposal. That means dispensing with the old metal type, big painted elements and in many cases, neon. Vinyl letting and LEDs now take their place. I'm sure one day, years from now, these new materials will seem equally as quaint- but for now, we'll just have to enjoy what was.
