Lexington Ave Between 23rd St and 21st St

These blocks – the final few before Lexington Avenue gives way to Gramercy Park and Irving Place – are home to schools, hotels, and high-end apartments. The park to the south, famous for being restricted to neighborhood residents only, by way of a key, looms in the distance creating a bit of a dark atmosphere.

With the busyness of 23rd Street directly to the north, things calm down very quickly. Having the park block traffic (and pedestrians) from easily continuing southward, there's a sense of calm that takes over. Baruch College dominates the first half here, with only some small stores across the street. The School of the Future (my favorite-named public school ever) sits at the end of the block. Crossing 22nd, the ritzy-ness associated with this area begins to take over – complete with doormen who dislike cameras.
