9th St Between 5th Ave and 6th Ave
This block presents itself as generally quiet and unassuming. Though, the first thing that struck me was how "designed" it felt. It's almost as-if there's some intention here to give visitors a "village experience". Sure it's not ideal. I'd argue the eastern half of the block feels a bit barren with it's lack of trees, whereas the western half is practically overgrown.
I can't recall if there were any new buildings along this block. It seemed to be mostly classic apartments and townhouses. I always love seeing how owners handle the small yard next to their stoop. The variations and similarities are fascinating. Some treat it as a place to display or store items, while others use it as a barrier (a modern day moat?) to discourage people from getting to close to the building. If I had one I'd lay down some sod and mow it each Saturday afternoon.

The top picture in your post is very indicative to me of this block as it is the main aretery for cabs from the East Village to the West. They always want to come across 9th street since after 6th Avenue, 9th Street becomes Christopher Street. And pedestrian traffic being what it is in the Village, waiting to make the right turn on 6th Avenue tends to back up the block with a long line of cabs.
If I am walking, I love this block. But if I am in the back of a cab, I avoid it at all costs.
