Orchard St Between Stanton St and Rivington St

The day I visited here the sky was a bit overcast which was a shame; the low buildings combined with the myriad of objects hanging off them (coats for sale, fire escapes, etc) would create for some really interesting shadows. But alas, it was not to be. I sometimes lament that my interpretation of blocks and neighborhoods is often influenced by the weather the day I go to shoot photos. I do my best to go in the mornings when it's sunny, but sometimes that just doesn't work out.
Like other blocks in the area, most of the buildings here have been around since early last century. Your expected mix of eclectic storefronts dot the landscape along with a healthy combination of mass-produced and hand-painted signs.
Looking back at some of the photos, I almost feel like I was on a movie set. The never-ending perspective of old tenement buildings going back into space combined with the narrow one-way street make for both a claustrophobic experience, and one of "classic" NY.
