Remsen St Between Hicks St and Henry St

Today's post and photos are contributed by Juan Pablo Dominguez.
Walking through the Brooklyn Heights neighborhood, it feels as if it is a Cul-de-sac as a whole. A dead end street with much less traffic and activity than the major city arteries that surround it. Walking this block in particular, you don’t feel just a few blocks from the Brooklyn Bridge, or a few steps from the BQE.
The architecture and the tree lined streets help amplify this effect. Remsen street is just an example of many streets on this area where narrow streets, ancient townhouses and short buildings make for a pleasant if not melancholic feeling.
Walking through it, you discover beautiful old townhouses with their construction dates, noting that some of them are centuries old. Also the back of a former hotel and it’s beautiful detailing come into view, and you wonder about the by-gone times of the Bossert Hotel (once refered to as the Waldorf-Astoria of Brooklyn).
Also, you learn that notable figures have taken up residence in this block, like the novelist Henry Miller, adding to a long list of writers that lived in the area.
Looking west, you can see the New York bay, and if you walk one block further in that direction, you end up with a beautiful view of the Manhattan skyline.
