10th St Between 6th Ave and 5th Ave

While there is a surprising amount of greenery in this city (excluding Central Park), it's still always a shock and joy when you come across a street so utterly filled with plants and trees as to make it stand out from others.
This particular area of 10th St – a pathway between the West Village and Greenwich Village – seems like it's part of some sort of special garden. Building-after-building has planters out front, some of which are beautifully groomed. The old architecture that lines the street is really something to behold. That's not to say this block is without it's quirks. Just like every other street, it has a fair share of broken down and grimey places. But that's all part of the character!

I am commenting on this entry a good 6 months after it's post having come here from your 250 Blocks Later post. This is a very special block to me. When my father died 13 years ago, we planted a tree for him on this block. It is the first tree on the right as you walk from 6th to 5th Avenues. It can be seen above in the picture directly below the map, in all it's greenery.
I am glad you found the block so green and vibrant and if my Dad's tree contributed to that, I am gratified. This tree has given me so much solace over the years, it is nice to know others enjoy it for their own reasons.
My father's name was Matthew James Strachan. There is a palque at the base of the tree. If you happen by again, take a look and say "Hi Matt". Or pour a little vodka around the base of the trunk. That's what I do on Father's Day.
