84th St Between Amsterdam Ave and Broadway

Thanks to Broadway's meandering path this block is cut rather short. Covered in trees and filled with mostly older buildings, it's hard to get a real read on this street. Businesses and residences line the whole stretch, with neither seeming to take precedent over the other.

There are some nice architectural details along most of the stretch – the exception being the long, bland building on the blocks south-western side. A Mr.Softee truck was parked on the Broadway corner, while a sign across the way promised a new GameStop to be opening in August. It all felt very typical of the area.

I lived on the corner of West 84th and Amsterdam Ave. from 1945 to 1951. There was a "Cooks Tavern" on the corner. Does anyone remember it or have any old photos of it?
