89th St Between Riverside Dr and West End Ave
This pale block of monochromatic white marble and drab bricks sits on the edge of the island, with the Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument starting things off on the west side. With nothing but townhouses and trees lining this block, there isn't much to do around here. There are some pretty great details built into some of the structures, but certainly nothing to write home about.
The way Riverside Dr weaves alongside the West Side Highway, hugging the contour of the island, creates for an interesting experience while exploring the streets. For example, 89th St is longer than 90th street because of the way the drive bows in with the park.
The serenity of this area is practically unparalleled in the rest of Manhattan. Certainly there are plenty of people to be found in the park, visiting the monument, but overall, these surrounding blocks seemed to be very quiet.
