54th St Between 7th Ave and 6th Ave

This block is incredibly typical of midtown - Hotels, restaurants, theaters, pubs, parking garages, car rental. Nothing is left out. Perhaps the two most notable features on the block are the London Hotel and the Ziegfeld Theatre.

The London is a rather beautiful hotel on the north side of the block. It's perhaps best known lately as the home to one of Gordon Ramsay's restaurants.

Down the street a bit, you'll see the (new) Zeigfeld Theatre. Built in 1969, it's meant as a replacement of-sorts for the original Ziegfeld which was a broadway stage a few hundred feet away. The modern structure has a very 1960's styling, but it has a great deal of class.

The block closes with the New York Hilton, which is one of my favorite modern buildings in terms of how it plays with texture and material. The bottom of the hotel has a bit of a "floating bunker" feel, while the top tower sits in the middle like a glass sail.
