10th Ave Between 25th St and 28th St
When I walked up this street there was a lot of noise, yelling and music echoing between the apartment buildings. As it turned out, there was a pretty significant street party being held on 26th street. Down the block you could see kids playing games, parents chatting it up, and even a large, inflatable jumpy thing. The street was blocked off with police tape, and it looked to me to be the best way a community could spend a Saturday.
Between 10th Avenue and 7th Avenue 27th Street turns into this puny alleyway of a street, which straight-up ends between 9th and 8th Avenues. Chelsea Park (aka Chelsea Ballfields), which takes up all the space between 10th Ave, 9th Ave, 28th St and 27th St, looks like a real nice place for organized teams to setup shop. It seems to be devoted to sports, and isn't so much a park for just lounging around in.
It's right after the park that you start to get that distinct "midtown" feeling. The buildings get taller, the stores get bigger and the apartments begin to go away. Depression sets in. Eventually, you just want to go home.
