56th St Between 5th Ave and 6th Ave

Going from the dazzling (albeit false) veneer of 5th Avenue to the staid and button-down high rises of 6th Avenue, this block is a mishmash of styles that ends up looking more like a bastard child of midtown and the lower east side. Lined with a combination of new towers and old restaurants, the block could be considered eclectic, if not a little sparse. Sure, there's plenty to choose from if you're looking for a quick midtown lunch, but the block is sort-of a one-trick-pony in that respect.

The contrast between the new buildings and the rundown (and occasionally empty) older ones is pretty stark...it can be a bit jarring if you're not expecting it.
