48th St Between 1st Ave and 2nd Ave

You'd never think that just steps away from the United Nations that you'd have such a hum-drum street, but sure enough, here it is. Though I admittedly didn't look very hard, there didn't appear to be any consulates – a typically common sight for east side blocks.

The open-air atmosphere that surrounds first avenue is quickly engulfed by a series of massive buildings, including the Trump World Tower. The remainder of the block is completely consumed by the midtown offices which dominate the neighborhood.

First off, you clearly didn't look very hard, because the Libyan Consulate is on that block.

Second, having grown up on this block, you have no idea how hum-drum it USED to be. Literally, the only exciting thing that went on on that block was that the city couldn't figure out how they wanted traffic on it to flow, so every few years it changed directions, or became a two-way street. Yawn.

That garden sure wasn't hum-drum.

I work on this block....there are consulates EVERYWHERE, if you're there during a work day. A lot of them "live" in my building at 1 Dag Hammarskjold. Gotta look for the the lanyards and blue ID cards. The last world meeting they had last month made it absolute hell to get around in our building.
