6th Ave Between 43rd St and 45th St

Though plenty of other skyscrapers dot the landscape, the standout attraction on this street is definitely the new Bank of America Tower. Also known as One Bryant Park, the building stands where a series of small run-down buildings used to sit (I remember them vividly as I used to go to a McDoanld's that used to sit where the lobby of the tower now exists). In fact, as of this posting the little Google Maps building outlines still show the old plots on top of which OBP is constructed.

The design reminds me in many ways of the future One World Trade Center building – previously known as the Freedom Tower. Its angled, sloping corners share a lot in common with the yet-to-be-built replacement for the Twin Towers. However, while One World Trade will be relatively symmetrical, the Bank of America Tower is anything but. Though it's now the second tallest building in the city (surpassing the Chrysler Building by less than 200 feet), it can still seem a little stumpy.

The remainder of this street is filled with very typical midtown high-rises – which is appropriate; if you look at a map, this is about as close to the middle of Manhattan as you can get. It seems that at no point would you be any further away from water.
