3rd Ave Between Atlantic Ave and Schermerhorn St

These blocks seems to be hidden when compared to the higher profile street surrounding it. Leading up to the frustratingly-named Schermerhorn Street, this block is mostly home to churches, schools, dive bars and delis. The sun-drenched stretch only has a few trees to help ease the despair.

Composed of almost all older buildings (Walgreens being the one new addition), the block isn't without its charm. The big public school is a cheery purple – though it's hard to tell if it was originally this color or has just faded from something a bit more vibrant. A large Baptist church at the end of the street just recently suffered a fire in July, though I couldn't see any signs of damage just a few weeks later. The temple was erected in 1894 and then rebuilt in 1917. The damage from this recent fire is estimated to be at around $2 million.
